BACKCASTING WORKSHOP:
Climate-Adapted Housing of the Future
Expert Workshop on Future Visions, Decisions, and Pathways for Climate Adaptation in Residential Buildings
January 21, 2027, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM – Vienna
(exact location to be announced)
How can we design residential buildings for a climate-adapted future?
What decisions are needed to achieve this?
The residential building sector plays a crucial role in both climate protection and climate adaptation. While reducing emissions remains a priority, we will continue to face climate impacts such as heat waves, heavy rainfall, and drought. Therefore, climate adaptation in residential buildings is becoming increasingly important (IPCC, 2023). As part of the FWF-funded research project SLOTH – Socio-Psychological Aspects of Long-Term High-Impact Decisions, we invite you to a backcasting workshop. Together with experts from various fields, we will develop visions for climate-adapted and climate-neutral housing and explore what steps, stakeholders, conditions, and decisions are needed to achieve climate neutrality and adaptation by 2055.
By attending the workshop, you will have the opportunity to:
1. Share your expertise and help define what effective climate adaptation in the residential sector looks like.
2. Connect with professionals from practice, planning, research, and implementation to discuss key topics in the field.
3. Identify current gaps and challenges in evaluating and implementing long-term strategies in residential buildings.
